Dean of Ben M’sik Faculty of Letters and Humanities | President of the Festival
I am honored to serve as the inaugural Dean of the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences - Ben M'sik in Casablanca and the first President of the International University Theater Festival in Casablanca. This festival, now in its thirty-seventh edition, stands as a prestigious artistic and cultural institution recognized both nationally and internationally. It serves as a source of pride for Moroccan universities and all stakeholders involved in academic and cultural domains, offering annual opportunities for training and cross-cultural engagement for students from around the globe. Since its inception, the festival has exemplified a successful model of cultural diplomacy, demonstrating the outreach of Moroccan universities and the broader cultural landscape of Casablanca and Morocco. The appreciated global position of the festival has prompted us this year to consider it a reference point for fostering dialogue between cultures and a vital instrument for enhancing Morocco's image on the international stage. Accordingly, we have selected the theme for this edition: “Theater and the Diplomacy of Arts and Culture.” This theme holds significant relevance in the current context, as Morocco actively participates in major global initiatives that utilize culture and art as strategic tools for fostering understanding and connection among peoples. Our thematic choice is a deliberate response to the profound transformations occurring within Morocco. The nation is experiencing a renaissance across various sectors, particularly in the cultural domain, which has multiple manifestations. Today, culture transcends mere symbolic expression; it has emerged as a fundamental driver of development and an effective means of soft diplomacy, reinforcing values of coexistence, openness, and dialogue. Moreover, the International University Theater Festival in Casablanca aligns with the dynamic evolution within Moroccan universities, which are increasingly embracing the humanities and arts. This shift acknowledges the essential role of culture and the arts in shaping individuals and citizens. In line with the gradual cultural revival of Casablanca and the Casablanca-Settat region, we are proud to honor two distinguished individuals in this edition: Professor and theater artist Abdelmajid Fennich, who has devoted his life to the arts and theater, becoming a beacon of creativity and a vital link between generations; and journalist Nezha Hamidi Idrissi, who has closely followed the festival and communicated its essence to audiences with professional sensitivity and genuine human depth. This tribute reinforces the importance of recognizing artistic and cultural contributions within Moroccan universities and fosters collaboration across various sectors in the Kingdom. In conclusion, as we celebrate theater as a diplomatic and cultural instrument during this edition, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our partners, supporting institutions, and participating universities, including students, professors, and administrators. Together, we create a moment of collective creativity and a dynamic space for dialogue and renewal. This deep-rooted cultural tradition serves as an artistic laboratory that connects the university to its city, affirming the role of theater as an impactful social and cultural act for nearly half a century, illuminating the neighborhoods of Casablanca with the spirit of art and engaging with local and international creativity.

Professor Nezha El Idrissi studied at Mohammed V University in Rabat, in Department of History and Geography. However, her great passion for journalism and media led her to join the Higher Institute of Journalism in Rabat, where she obtained her degree, paving the way for her distinguished professional launch in the field of audiovisual media.
